Rabbi Warren Stone to Sound Shofar at UN COP15 in Copenhagen: Jewish Leadership to Pave Way for Low Carbon World
Rabbi Warren Stone, an eco-activist and spiritual leader of Temple Emanuel in Kensington, Maryland, in the Greater Washington, D.C. area, will serve as a delegate at the UN Climate Change Conference (UN COP15) to be held in Copenhagen in December 2009. Rabbi Stone will represent the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Union for Reform Judaism, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Earth Day Network, and the National Religious Coalition on Creation Care, on which he serves as Co-chair. A $2.5 Grant from Grinspoon Foundation will enable The PJ Library to expand its reach to 10,000 children by 2008. The highly successful family Jewish identity-building initiative modeled itself after Dolly Parton's Imagination Library children's book gifting program. Philanthropist Harold Grinspoon brought the Imagination Library to Western Massachusetts, then was inspired to adapt the concept to the Jewish Community, to build Jewish identity in young intermarried and unaffiliated Jewish families.
