Jewish Funeral Directors of America's Charitable Fund Tops $85,000 in Donations
Lynn, Mass. (PRWEB) April 27, 2009 -- Since its inception, the Charitable Fund of the Jewish Funeral Directors of America (JFDA) has donated over $85,000 to more than 100 needy Jewish and secular organizations in North America. The JFDA is the international association of funeral homes that assists people of the Jewish faith in arranging meaningful funerals according to Jewish tradition. The JFDA and its individual members have a rich history of charitable giving.
JFDA's members, who serve as leaders in their respective communities throughout North America, also donate time and funds to charitable causes. Such organizations include nursing homes, Jewish educational institutions, Hillel and teen outreach organizations and summer camps for children with cancer.
"Tzedakah, or charity, is an important part of our mission," said Mark Friedman, president, JFDA. "The funds we donate enable us to support, educate and care for members of the communities we serve."
Charities to which the JFDA has donated funds include The Israel Emergency Campaign; United Jewish Communities for Katrina relief; Jewish Community Homes for Adult Independence; Jewish National Fund; Mazon: Jewish Response to Hunger; and the South Asia Tsunami Relief Fund. Additional organizations include The Alcove Center for Grieving Children; Golan Fund's Pups for Peace; the Dysautonomia Foundation; Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance; and Jewish Institute for Pastoral Care, to name a few.
With 200 members across North America, JFDA has served as the authority for traditional Jewish funerals since it was established in 1928. Its educational programs, meetings and seminars enable members to adhere to the organization's Code of Conduct and maintain professional accreditations while providing comfort and dignity to the families they serve.
JFDA is headquartered in Lynn, Mass. For additional information, call 781.477.9300 or email info (at) jfda (dot) org.
